Avocado Granny Square

If you love avocados as much as we do at our house you are going to need to crochet yourself some of these cute granny squares! This free crochet pattern would work up into a super cute blanket! Are you like me and do not flinch when they say “guac costs extra”? I am all for that fatty goodness.

 

Materials

J/10 – 5.75mm crochet hook

Small amount of worsted weight yarn. Colour for avocado pit, flesh (one or two shades), skin colour and outer square colour.

Yarn  needle for weaving in ends.

Magic ring

Round 1: CH 2, 12 DC in magic ring. Sl ST to first DC by removing hook and inserting in stitch from behind. Fasten off.  (12)

 

Round 2: Join new colour. CH 1, 2 SC in same as CH, 2 SC in next 3, 2 HDC in next 2, 2 DC, 2 TR, 2 TR,2DC, 2 HDC in next 2.  SL ST  to first SC using the seamless join from behind. Fasten off.  (24)

 

Round 3: In last stitch pull up a loop of new colour. See image. CH 1, SC in same, SC in next 3, 2 SC, SC in next 4, 2 SC, SC in next 2, HDC in next 2, DC in next 2, 2 DC, 2 TR in next 2, 2 DC, DC in next 2, HDC in next 2. Join to first SC using seamless join.  Fasten off. (30)

 

Round 4: Using next colour, draw up a loop in 3rd SC along the bottom of the group of 4 from last round. CH 1, SC in same stitch, SC in next 3, 2 SC, SC in next 5, 2 SC in next 9, SC in next 5, 2 SC, SC in next 5.  Join from behind. Fasten off. (41)

Round 5: This is where you will create the outside of your square. Each side should have 12 stitches.  Join new colour on stitch after join. It is the stitch that I pulled up a loop and made the first SC from the last round. CH 6, 2 TR in next, DC in next 3, HDC, DC, 2 DC, TR, 2 TR, CH 3. (12)

TR in next 2, DC, HDC 2 DC in same stitch, HDC in next 3, SC in next 3, HDC, DC, TR in next 2, CH 3. (12)

 

2 DC in same stitch, HDC in next 3, SC in next 3, HDC, DC, TR in next 2, CH 3. (12)

2 TR, DC, HDC, SC in next 4, HDC, 2 DC, DC in same as CH. (12)  SL ST to CH 6. Fasten off and weave in ends.
